{"id":44188,"date":"2013-08-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-29T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2013\/08\/29\/national-recognition-underscores-outreach-efforts\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T20:19:57","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T01:19:57","slug":"national-recognition-underscores-outreach-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2013\/08\/29\/national-recognition-underscores-outreach-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"National recognition underscores outreach efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>When the &#8220;On Air&#8221; light illuminates, &#8220;Dr. Ally&#8221; leans into the microphone and begins one of the approximately 75 public service presentations she makes each year.<\/p>\n<p>In her appearances on KFOR radio, Ally Dering-Anderson, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice, touches on such topics as health care, drug use and abuse, and utilizing your pharmacist as a member of your health care team. <\/p>\n<p>The community should reap the benefits of pharmacy practice, she says. She tries to make that happen, by making a connection with that community, most any chance she gets.<\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"250\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Ally0826.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:0.85em;line-height:150%\">UNMC&#8217;s Ally Dering-Anderson, Pharm.D. She was feted as one of three national finalists for Next-Generation Pharmacist 2013 Civic Leader of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>The awards program was held earlier this month in Las Vegas, concurrent with the National Association of Chain Drug Stores&#8217; Total Store Expo. Amy Bachyrycz, Pharm.D., assistant professor at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy and pharmacist at the Walgreens Patient Care Center in Albuquerque, was the overall top honoree as the 2013 Next-Generation Pharmacist.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dering-Anderson&#8217;s nomination form read: &#8220;She believes that we are valuable members of the health care team, who should serve as the experts in all drug-related areas.&#8221; It went on: &#8220;Community pharmacy is a special kind of pharmacy practice and she embraces that thought and advocates for all pharmacists who work in the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dering-Anderson is active in Nebraska&#8217;s pharmacy community and strives to give her students hands-on experience in community, civic and legislative
