\n<\/TABLE>Iqbal Ahmad, Ph.D., professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at UNMC, will discuss the promise and limitations of regenerative medicine, particularly how it relates to eye disease, at tonight’s Science Cafe, being held at 7 p.m. at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ahmad is the associate dean of academic affairs and director of postdoctoral education and research. He was trained at Yale University School of Medicine, where he studied the development of the brain using the retina as its model. Dr. Ahmad’s lab at UNMC is at the forefront of stem cell research for treating blindness. <\/p>\n

Science Cafes involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone (21 and older), and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. Each meeting is organized around an interesting topic of conversation. A scientist gives a brief presentation followed by a question-and-answer period.<\/p>\n
