{"id":44969,"date":"2013-11-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-13T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2013\/11\/13\/profiles-of-new-co-leadership-team\/"},"modified":"2022-08-29T14:39:52","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T19:39:52","slug":"profiles-of-new-co-leadership-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2013\/11\/13\/profiles-of-new-co-leadership-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Profiles of new co-leadership team"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>\nWith Fosdick&rsquo;s retirement announcement, a new co-leadership model has been developed.<\/p>\n<p>\nBrad Britigan, M.D., dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, will serve as interim president with Bill Dinsmoor, former chief financial officer at The Nebraska Medical Center serving as the interim CEO.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe leadership team is charged with creating an integrated and financially aligned clinical enterprise to provide the best care for patients, while laying the foundation for improved operational and financial performance over the long term for The Nebraska Medical Center, Bellevue Medical Center and UNMC Physicians.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Bradley Britigan, M.D., <\/strong><em>interim president <\/em><\/p>\n<p>\nDr. Britigan appreciates and understands the unique missions of academic medical centers and how they are different from other hospitals and physician practices.<\/p>\n<p>\nAn internal medicine\/infectious disease specialist, Dr. Britigan is the Stokes-Shackleford Professor and dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. He joined UNMC in 2011 after seven years at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as chair of internal medicine. Prior to that, he spent 17 years at the University of Iowa where he was director of infectious diseases. He also has had a 25-year relationship as a staff physician in the Department of Veterans Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>\nWith its full complement of clinical specialties and subspecialties, as well as strong commitments to excellence in biomedical education and research, Dr. Britigan believes UNMC and its clinical partners are well positioned to provide state-of-the-art care for any medical condition.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe also places a high value on research and education. His own research focuses on bacterial infections of the lungs and on the biology of oxygen-centered free radicals and\/or iron metabolism as they relate to host defense\/inflammation.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe National Institutes of Health, the VA and a variety of research foundations have funded his research. He has been involved in teaching of medical students, graduate students, residents and post-doctoral fellows throughout his academic career<\/p>\n<p>\nA Minnesota native who grew up in St. Louis, Dr. Britigan earned his bachelor&rsquo;s degree at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and his medical degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He did his internal medicine residency at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe author of more than 120 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Britigan was elected to membership in two of the most prestigious societies in academic medicine &ndash; the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and was the president of the American Federation for Medical Research from 1996-1997 and president of the Central Society for Clinical Research from 2010-2011.<\/p>\n<p>\nAs dean, he is determined to expand and improve all aspects of UNMC&rsquo;s clinical, educational and research enterprise, emphasizing interdisciplinary team-based approaches to meeting the challenges of 21st century medicine.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>William Dinsmoor<\/strong>, <em>interim CEO<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\nDinsmoor was appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer of The Nebraska Medical Center in 1997 and has served in that capacity since.<\/p>\n<p>\nPrior to this appointment, Dinsmoor served as the chief financial officer of Clarkson Hospital from 1991 to 1997. He is also the chief financial officer of Clarkson Regional Health Services and has held this position since 1991.<\/p>\n<p>\nDinsmoor is known as a strategic thinker, a team builder and a leader who gets things done. In his time at The Nebraska Medical Center, he has lead efforts to develop the Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital and Bellevue Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe was the executive sponsor of the system-wide implementation of the Epic electronic medical record system, an $80 million investment connecting patient information across hospitals, physician offices and clinics.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe also is involved with and was instrumental in the formation of the Accountable Care Alliance, the partnership between Methodist Health System, The Nebraska Medical Center and their affiliated physicians.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Accountable Care Alliance is one of the first accountable care organizations in the country and the first to involve competing health systems working together. Its primary goals are to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care while reducing health care costs.<\/p>\n<p>\nA Missouri native, Dinsmoor received his B.S. in accounting from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1982 and earned designation of Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn 2000, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanitarian Services and was the recipient of the Otto F. Bauer Humanitarian Service Award. Dinsmoor holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>\nDuring his career, Dinsmoor has served on numerous community and corporate boards. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Accountable Care Alliance, Bellevue Medical Center, Clarkson College, Nebraska Health Partners, Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital and SimplyWell.<\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" style=\"display: none;\" title=\"eCgHKzvLl gPSg TAgA E \"><!-- eCgHKzvLl gPSg TAgA E
