\nWalter Brooks, administrative director of the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation and Visitor’s Center, will speak Friday, Feb. 21 on “Reflections on American Medical Practices and the African-American People: From Slavery to the 21st Century.”<\/p>\n

He will speak from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Eppley Science Hall, Room 3010. Lunch will be provided for the first 30 participants.<\/p>\n

The speech is presented in honor of Black History Month by the UNMC Diversity Lecture and Cultural Arts Series.<\/p>\n

Brooks is the recipient of numerous awards, including the UNMC Chancellor’s Diversity Award; the Urban League of Nebraska Black Achievement Award; and the Mildred D. Brown Legacy Award for his writing contributions to the Omaha Star newspaper.<\/p>\n

He is a United States Marine Corps combat veteran of the Vietnam War, as well as a former associate of the Denver Colorado Black Panther Party (1970-71) and a founding member of the Colorado Chapter of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He was recruited to Omaha in 1977 to serve as director of communications for the Great Plains Black Museum. <\/p>\n

Brooks has more than 25 years of experience in professional communications, journalism and public relations, including Mutual of Omaha (1980-1987), ConAgra Foods (1994-1999) and UNMC (1999-2007).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
