\n<\/TABLE>Eleven faculty members celebrate service milestones of 30 years and will be recognized during the annual faculty meeting at 4 p.m. on April 24 in the Durham Research Center Auditorium. <\/p>\n

Below, three honorees share memorable moments:<\/p>\n

Jeffrey Hill, M.D., associate dean for admissions and student affairs and associate professor of family medicine, said his fondest two memories of his 30 years at UNMC are when he hooded his son and daughter when they obtained their M.D. degrees from UNMC.<\/p>\n

M.J. (Stanley) Jobes, assistant professor, College of Nursing-Lincoln Division, said her best memory was her first — when she was interviewed and hired by then-Dean Rosalee Yeaworth 30 years ago. “I felt honored to be hired by her and to have had such a great career teaching nursing at UNMC.”<\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>Shantaram Joshi, Ph.D., professor of genetics cell biology & anatomy, recalls his favorite memories from the past 30 years.<\/p>\n

“One of my favorite memories is my interactions with three mentors from whom I learned a lot about academia, including medical research and teaching.<\/p>\n

“In the beginning, I joined Drs. Graham Sharp and David Crouse’s group in 1983. They trained me in different aspects of basic and translational research in cancer biology and encouraged me to establish my own research in B cell malignancy. <\/p>\n

“The guidance I received from them not only helped to establish my research, but also helped my personal development.<\/p>\n

\n<\/TABLE>“In 1987, I became an assistant professor in the Department of Anatomy where I received guidance, support and encouragement from Dr. Kenneth Metcalf — then chairman of the department — to get involved in medical histology teaching, while continuing my research and training graduate students. I still teach medical histology after all these years and enormously enjoy interacting with medical students on a one-on-one basis. <\/p>\n

“The excellent support I received from these three outstanding mentors was special for an individual like me coming from India to the United States. My mentoring relationship with these individuals has transformed into close friendships between our families.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
