\nWally Thoreson, Ph.D.,<\/strong> ophthalmology & visual science, has received a Research to Prevent Blindness Senior Scientific Investigator Award.  Restricted to one applicant per institution annually, candidates are recognized national leaders actively engaged in eye research.<\/p>\n

\nJason Shiffermiller, M.D.,<\/strong> internal medicine – general medicine, has received a Blue Cross\/Blue Shield award for his work in the Midtown Multi-morbidity Project which utilizes case management interventions to prevent readmissions of patients with multiple chronic illnesses.<\/p>\n

\nMatthew Lunning, M.D., D.O.,<\/strong> internal medicine – oncology\/hematology, is the UNMC lead on a Phase I clinical trial to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a new therapeutic agent in the treatment of patients with advanced hematological malignancies. This study is currently recruiting participants.<\/p>\n

\nJue Wang, M.D.,<\/strong> internal medicine – oncology\/hematology, is the UNMC lead on a Phase III clinical trial utilizing personalized, cancer immunotherapy in combination with targeted drug therapy for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma. This study is currently recruiting participants.<\/p>\n

\nDavid Schneberger, Ph.D.,<\/strong> internal medicine – pulmonary, has received a Great Plains Center pilot grant to explore the effect of elevated carbon dioxide in the presence of barn dust on lung inflammation.<\/p>\n

\nTed Mikuls, M.D.,<\/strong> internal medicine – rheumatology, has received an NIH subcontract from the University of Colorado to study the early phases of autoantibody circulation prior to clinically apparent signs and symptoms and the impact of those early immune changes on the progression to rheumatoid arthritis.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
