\n46 percent staying in Nebraska, 59 percent matched in primary care <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\nA total of 122 UNMC senior medical students received their residency assignments on March 21 during a Match Day ceremony held on campus.<\/p>\n

\nForty-six percent of UNMC students are staying in Nebraska for their training, and 59 percent of UNMC students matched in primary care, which includes family medicine, internal medicine, internal medicine\/pediatrics, pediatrics and obstetrics\/gynecology.<\/p>\n

\nA residency is a training program for newly graduated medical students in the medical area of their choice. Residencies range in length from three to six years. <\/p>\n

\nStudents are matched by the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP) through a computer program to align their preferences for residency programs in order to fill the thousands of training positions available at U.S. teaching hospitals.<\/p>\n

\nThe NRMP Main Residency Match results show that 16,399 U.S. medical school seniors have matched to first-year residency positions.<\/p>\n

\nThe UNMC students, slated to graduate May 10, are listed by hometown, name, specialty and residency assignment.<\/p>\n
