\nApril 26 <\/strong>— Paul Knoepfler, Ph.D., UC Davis School of Medicine and one of the 50 most influential experts in the world on stem cell research, 11:30 a.m., Sorrell Center. Here’s how to make a reservation<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\nApril 26 – <\/strong>Bike for Sight at 9 a.m. at Miller’s Landing on the downtown Omaha riverfront. The event raises awareness and funds to support a vision restoring cataract camp in Nepal, a country located in south Asia bordered by India and China. For every registered rider, UNMC’s Prevention of Global Blindness division will perform one free cataract surgery on a patient living needlessly blind in Nepal. The event is open to both casual and serious riders of all ages and skill levels, and participants can choose between 5, 10, 20 and 40 mile routes. Pre-registration is available at www.bikeforsight.org<\/a> or in person the day of the event.<\/p>\n

\nApril 26 — <\/strong>"Straight Talk about the Heart," an educational event to benefit the American Heart Association, will be held in the lower Storz Pavilion in Clarkson Tower. Subjects will include transcatheter aortic valve replacement, varicose veins and adult congenital heart disease. For more information on speakers and times, click here<\/a>. \nApril 30<\/strong> — <\/strong>National Walk at Lunch Day.<\/p>\n

\nMay 2 — <\/strong>"How Modern Yoga Can Help Our Patients: The Studies, the Theory and the Practices," at noon at the Sorrell Center, Room 4053. Baxter Bell, M.D., a physician, medical acupuncturist and a Yoga Alliance certified educator, will speak on the emerging benefits of yoga for a wide variety of health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases.<\/p>\n

\nMay 6 – <\/strong>Circle of Distinction event celebrating COM faculty who hold endowed chairs and professorships and the donors whose generosity made the honors possible. By invitation only, 5:30 p.m., Truhlsen Events Center.<\/p>\n

\nMay 19 – <\/strong>100th<\/sup> anniversary celebration for UNMC Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.<\/p>\n

\nJune 2-6 – <\/strong>Celebration of the 10th<\/sup> anniversary of UNMC’s relationship with China will be held sometime this week.<\/p>\n

\nJune 6-7 — <\/strong>The 2014 Cattlemen’s Ball will be hosted by the Hoot Owl Ranch near Harrisburg, Neb., which is near the Wyoming border. Kenny and Misty Stauffer are ranch managers, while Jeff and Kathy May own the ranch.<\/p>\n

\nJune 7 – <\/strong>Polo for Patients, an equestrian style fundraiser, will be held at Levi Carter Park. All proceeds will benefit the Patient Assistance Fund, a resource that provides support for basic needs such as transportation, lodging, clothing and food for patients and their families.<\/p>\n
