Nationally recognized faculty members in the area of acute stroke management<\/p>\n

will be in Omaha Friday, May 9, for a daylong conference, which involves<\/p>\n

all the major acute healthcare institutions in Omaha and Lincoln.<\/p>\n

The University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Health System<\/p>\n

are among the sponsors of the event, which runs from 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

at the Omaha Marriott, 10220 Regency Circle.<\/p>\n

This is a unique event of its kind for stroke in our area, said Conference<\/p>\n

Director Pierre Fayad, M.D., who serves as the Reynolds Centennial Professor<\/p>\n

and chairman of UNMCs department of neurological sciences.<\/p>\n

The multidisciplinary conference, titled Acute Stroke Management: Present<\/p>\n

Challenges and Future Hopes, is designed for physicians; nurses; physician<\/p>\n

assistants; nurse practitioners; clinical nurse specialists; pharmacists;<\/p>\n

physical, occupational and speech therapists; and emergency medical technicians.<\/p>\n

The conference is divided into two parts: the morning involves a plenary<\/p>\n

session, in which the speakers are visiting faculty with national reputations<\/p>\n

in their field. Visiting faculty members are from the University of Colorado<\/p>\n

Health Science Center, the University of Pittsburgh Health System and the<\/p>\n

University of Cincinnati Medical Center.<\/p>\n

The afternoon is dedicated to six workshops in which some of the visiting<\/p>\n

faculty will interact with local health care professionals to address local<\/p>\n

issues.<\/p>\n

The conference fee is $95 for physicians, $75 for other professionals<\/p>\n

and $35 for emergency medical technicians and medical residents. The fee<\/p>\n

includes breakfast, lunch, handout materials and the scientific sessions.<\/p>\n
