The International Association of Dental Research (IADR) has awarded<\/p>\n

its Oral Health Research Award, sponsored by Colgate, to Caren M. Barnes,<\/p>\n

professor, University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry Department<\/p>\n

of Surgical Specialties. The award, presented recently at the IADR general<\/p>\n

session in Goteberg, Sweden, recognizes meritorious research contributions<\/p>\n

in the prevention of oral disease and promotion of wellness which has also<\/p>\n

resulted in publications in scientific, peer-reviewed journals.<\/p>\n

Barnes was recognized for her contributions to oral health research<\/p>\n

and sustained research funding for more than 25 years. She is the seventh<\/p>\n

recipient of the award which is given annually to recipients from all over<\/p>\n

the world.<\/p>\n

She received a certificate and cash award for travel and other support<\/p>\n

related to attending the annual meeting and research activities.<\/p>\n

Barnes said she was extremely humbled and excited to hear shed receive<\/p>\n

the award.<\/p>\n

That my work is of sufficient quality recognized by my peers makes<\/p>\n

me very proud and grateful for the recognition, she said. I am also very<\/p>\n

grateful to Dr. Lewis Menaker who was a great resource for me at the University<\/p>\n

of Alabama School of Dentistry.<\/p>\n

Barnes, who also serves as UNMC College of Dentistry coordinator of<\/p>\n

clinical research, is a member of the dental hygiene national honor society<\/p>\n

Sigma Phi Alpha. She serves on the editorial advisory board for Dimensions<\/p>\n

of Dental Hygiene and the editorial review board for the Journal of Clinical<\/p>\n

Dentistry and the Journal of Practical Hygiene.<\/p>\n

The IADR, which has more than 10,000 members worldwide, works to advance<\/p>\n

research and increase knowledge for the improvement of oral health by promoting<\/p>\n

oral research.<\/p>\n
