The University of Nebraska Medical Center held its sixth Rural Health<\/p>\n

Professions Career Day recently. The event, also sponsored by the Rural<\/p>\n

Health Education Network, introduced students to the health professions.<\/p>\n

One hundred and twenty-one high school students from 24 rural high schools<\/p>\n

learned about opportunities in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry,<\/p>\n

physician assistant, physical therapy, medical technology and other fields.<\/p>\n

The students attended three, tailored 30-minute informational sessions<\/p>\n

of their choosing with various health professionals.<\/p>\n

Dan Chambers, coordinator of the program, said students learned about<\/p>\n

the different schools at UNMC, and what classes they should be taking now,<\/p>\n

and in college, to pursue health care education at UNMC. We expose students<\/p>\n

to the wealth of different health care careers in society to better assist<\/p>\n

them in achieving their goals as health care professionals in the future,<\/p>\n

he said.<\/p>\n

The Rural Health Professions Career Day is one of many UNMC efforts<\/p>\n

to assist in Growing Our Own future health professionals for Nebraska.<\/p>\n
