The University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Eppley Cancer Center has<\/p>\n

received $104,000 in proceeds from the 2000 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska,<\/p>\n

an event which was held June 3 at the Haythorn Ranch near Arthur, Neb.<\/p>\n

“This contribution from the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Ball Association is<\/p>\n

very important,” said Kenneth Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the UNMC<\/p>\n

Eppley Cancer Center. “It will help us launch new, groundbreaking research<\/p>\n

projects, improve treatment options and search for new methods of cancer<\/p>\n

prevention. We sincerely appreciate the association’s support in our fight<\/p>\n

against these devastating diseases.”<\/p>\n

The Cattlemen’s Ball is held annually to promote beef in a healthy diet<\/p>\n

and to showcase rural Nebraska. All of the money raised stays in Nebraska,<\/p>\n

with 90 percent of the proceeds going to the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center<\/p>\n

and 10 percent directed toward health-care needs in the community hosting<\/p>\n

the event.<\/p>\n

The 2000 Cattlemen’s Ball was hosted by Craig and Jody Haythorn, Waldo<\/p>\n

and Beldora Haythorn, and Bob and Sally Haythorn-Mayden of the Haythorn<\/p>\n

Ranch, world-renowned as the single largest producer of Quarter Horses<\/p>\n

in the United States and the third largest in the world. Event activities<\/p>\n

this year included an art show, live auction, cowboy poetry, horse shows<\/p>\n

and a concert by Ricky Van Shelton.<\/p>\n

The 2001 Cattlemen’s Ball will take place June 2 at the Thacher Cattle<\/p>\n

Company, which is located southeast of Valentine, Neb. Hosts will be Don<\/p>\n

and Sandi Ormesher, their son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kami Ormesher,<\/p>\n

and Mark and Kami’s four children.<\/p>\n
