University of Nebraska Medical Center Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D.,<\/p>\n

has appointed a 15-member search committee to identify candidates for the<\/p>\n

position of dean of the College of Medicine. James Armitage, M.D., recently<\/p>\n

announced he would retire from the position Sept. 1. He plans to stay at<\/p>\n

UNMC, focusing his efforts on teaching, clinical research and patient care.<\/p>\n

I appreciate the willingness of the search committee members to serve,<\/p>\n

Dr. Maurer said. The deans post in the College of Medicine is a critically<\/p>\n

important position for the Medical Center as we face the challenges ahead.<\/p>\n

We are committed to finding the best candidate to help us build upon the<\/p>\n

successes of past deans.<\/p>\n

Jon Thompson, M.D., professor of surgery, will lead the search committee.<\/p>\n

Other members are:<\/p>\n

· Stephen Smith, M.D., chief medical officer, Nebraska Health<\/p>\n

System;<\/p>\n

· Joseph Sisson, M.D., professor, internal medicine-pulmonary<\/p>\n

medicine;<\/p>\n

· Pamela Carmines, Ph.D., professor, physiology\/biophysics;<\/p>\n

· John Windle, M.D., professor, internal medicine-cardiology;<\/p>\n

· Michael Sitorius, M.D., chairman, family medicine;<\/p>\n

· Patricia Hageman, Ph.D., director, professor, physical therapy<\/p>\n

education, School of Allied Health Professions;<\/p>\n

· Judith Christman, Ph.D., chairwoman, biochemistry and molecular<\/p>\n

biology;<\/p>\n

· Margaret (Peggy) Wheelock, Ph.D., professor, College of Dentistry,<\/p>\n

Lied Transplant Center;<\/p>\n

· Duane Krause, M.D., president, College of Medicine Alumni<\/p>\n

Association;<\/p>\n

· John McClain, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for academic<\/p>\n

affairs and chief student affairs officer;<\/p>\n

· Kristie Hayes, M.D., assistant dean, student and multicultural<\/p>\n

affairs;<\/p>\n

· Paul Paulman, M.D., president-elect, UNMC Faculty Senate;<\/p>\n

· Harlan Noddle, member, Nebraska Health System Board of Directors;<\/p>\n

and<\/p>\n

· Casey Johnston, UNMC Student Senate president, student regent<\/p>\n
