The family of a well-known University of Nebraska Medical Center College<\/p>\n

of Dentistry alumnus, Doug Eversoll, D.D.S., has established an endowed<\/p>\n

fund to benefit students of the colleges orthodontics program. Dr. Eversoll,<\/p>\n

who died last June at the age of 43, had an orthodontic practice in Lincoln<\/p>\n

and a satellite clinic in York.<\/p>\n

The Dr. Douglas K. Eversoll Memorial Fund was established through the<\/p>\n

University of Nebraska Foundation to recognize Dr. Eversoll’s contributions<\/p>\n

to orthodontics and encourage students to become involved in professional<\/p>\n

organizations and activities, and volunteer their time. It will give UNMC<\/p>\n

College of Dentistry orthodontic students an opportunity to attend local,<\/p>\n

state, regional and national meetings.<\/p>\n

Friends, family and colleagues have donated more than $8,000 to the<\/p>\n

fund. A goal of $75,000 is set to fully fund the endowment and make it<\/p>\n

a self-sustained benefit to students.<\/p>\n

Dr. Eversoll received his doctor of dental surgery degree from UNMC<\/p>\n

in 1984 and his orthodontic post-graduate degree in 1986.<\/p>\n

The Eversoll family said the fund reflects Dr. Eversoll’s life themes<\/p>\n

of building group strength through leadership. Dr. Eversoll demonstrated<\/p>\n

leadership qualities at an early age through membership in Boy Scouts,<\/p>\n

school clubs, and student councils. He had many professional memberships<\/p>\n

and was an active community volunteer.<\/p>\n

He served as president of the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists and<\/p>\n

belonged to the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental<\/p>\n

Association, the Nebraska Dental Association, the Lincoln Orthodontic Society<\/p>\n

and the Lincoln District Dental Association.<\/p>\n

Doug was passionate about supporting organized dentistry, notably his<\/p>\n

own specialty of orthodontics, said Peter Spalding, D.D.S., associate<\/p>\n

professor and chair of the UNMC College of Dentistry Department of Growth<\/p>\n

and Development. The fund honors Doug’s enthusiasm for his profession<\/p>\n

and inspires future generations of orthodontists to the same level of commitment.<\/p>\n

It supports our students’ early involvement in orthodontic organizations.<\/p>\n
