 Artwork created by cancer survivors is needed for the third annual Gallery of Hope Art Exhibit, which will be held February 18 to 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Olson Center for Womens Health on the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus and the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center are sponsoring the exhibit.
\n

 The Gallery of Hope initially was developed to increase awareness of breast cancer and served as the kick-off event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in previous years. This year, the goal is to feature the artwork of all cancer survivors and to increase overall awareness of cancer. Artwork, whether done professionally or as a hobby, is needed for the exhibit.
\n

 Tancy Jahn, pediatric nurse\/artist at NHS University Hospital, said that artwork is a vehicle for patients experiencing emotional stress and pain.
\n

 Art is often beneficial where words can fail patients, Jahn said. It can be anything from total escape and creativity to expression of a patients innermost feelings.
\n

 The Gallery of Hope recognizes art as a form of therapy for cancer survivors and encourages everyone to participate. Last years gallery included artwork, handcrafts, quilts, miniatures, photography and other artistic expressions. The exhibit will be displayed in the UNMC\/Nebraska Health System Outpatient Care Center East Atrium.
