Sixteen schools across Nebraska will be represented at the ninth University<\/p>\n

of Nebraska Medical Center Health\/Science Meet. The meet is an expense-paid,<\/p>\n

three-day, educational and entertaining experience. The meets goal is<\/p>\n

to inspire Nebraska eighth-graders, especially those from rural communities,<\/p>\n

to pursue careers in health care.<\/p>\n

About 240 students competed for 100 slots in the meet by submitting<\/p>\n

science projects in regional science competitions. Students from the below<\/p>\n

schools are scheduled to attend the meet. Following the meet, names of<\/p>\n

the participating students, as well as photos, will be sent to newspapers.<\/p>\n

Below is a list of the high schools that are scheduled to be represented.<\/p>\n

BLUE HILL Blue Hill High School<\/p>\n

BROKEN BOW Broken Bow Middle School<\/p>\n

CRETE Valley View Public School<\/p>\n

DAVID CITY Aquinas Middle School<\/p>\n

FARNAM Eustis Farnam Public School<\/p>\n

GRANT — Grant Public Schools<\/p>\n

HYANNIS Hyannis High School<\/p>\n

INMAN Inman Public School<\/p>\n

LINCOLN — Lincoln Lutheran Junior\/Senior High School<\/p>\n

Mc COOK St. Patricks Elementary<\/p>\n

MITCHELL Haig School<\/p>\n

NORTH PLATTE — St. Patricks Junior\/Senior High School<\/p>\n

OMAHA St. Vincent de Paul<\/p>\n

RED CLOUD Red Cloud High School<\/p>\n

ROSELAND Silver Lake Public School<\/p>\n

SCOTTSBLUFF — Bluffs Middle School<\/p>\n

The expense-paid meet exposes students to the health professions, medical<\/p>\n

research and patient care. Events include hands-on activities, speakers<\/p>\n

presenting information about a variety of health science disciplines and<\/p>\n

touring UNMC’s 67-acre campus. Entertainment activities include dinner<\/p>\n

and fun activities at Mahoney State Park. On Saturday, June 9, students<\/p>\n

also will participate in the Health\/Science Bowl, a team competition held<\/p>\n

in a TV game show style.<\/p>\n

The meet is part of UNMCs programs to enable Nebraska to “grow its<\/p>\n

own” health care professionals. More than half of Nebraska physicians,<\/p>\n

pharmacists, dental professionals, nurses and other health professionals<\/p>\n

have graduated from UNMC.<\/p>\n
