<\/FONT><\/B><\/p>\n

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is currently accepting nominations<\/p>\n

for the 2000 J.G. (Jack) Elliott Award. The award is presented annually<\/p>\n

to an individual who has made significant contributions to medicine and<\/p>\n

health programs in Nebraska. It is given in memory of Elliott, a former<\/p>\n

Scottsbluff resident who served on the University of Nebraska Board of<\/p>\n

Regents for 20 years until his death in 1974.<\/p>\n

The recipient will be selected by the chancellor of UNMC based on input<\/p>\n

from individuals or groups chosen by the chancellor. The award will be<\/p>\n

presented during UNMCs spring commencement ceremony in Omaha. Nominees<\/p>\n

are evaluated according to the following criteria:<\/p>\n

–A Nebraska resident who has made a significant contribution to the<\/p>\n

health of the state through his or her actions.<\/p>\n


–Statewide impact with contributions in the areas of education, research<\/p>\n

and community outreach.<\/p>\n


–The individuals actions should improve individual and community<\/p>\n

health.<\/p>\n


–The health contributions should be beyond the scope of work-related<\/p>\n

activities.<\/p>\n

To receive a nomination form, call (402) 559-7377. Nominations and supporting<\/p>\n

materials should be submitted by Feb. 23.<\/p>\n

UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.<\/p>\n

Through its commitment to research, education, outreach and patient care,<\/p>\n

UNMC has established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for<\/p>\n

cancer research and treatment and solid organ transplantation. Nearly $32<\/p>\n

million in research grants and contracts were awarded to UNMC scientists<\/p>\n

during the past fiscal year. In addition, UNMCs educational programs are<\/p>\n

responsible for training more health professionals practicing in Nebraska<\/p>\n

than any other institution.<\/p>\n
