<\/FONT><\/B><\/p>\n

  Uday B. Kompella, Ph.D., assistant professor in the University<\/p>\n

of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy, has been elected to a three-year<\/p>\n

term as secretary\/treasurer, regulatory affairs on the executive council<\/p>\n

for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).<\/p>\n

Dr. Kompella received his bachelors degree in 1987 from Birla Institute<\/p>\n

of Technology and Science in Pilani, India, his masters degree in pharmaceutical<\/p>\n

engineering in 1989 from Jadavpur University in Calcutta, and his Ph.D.<\/p>\n

in pharmaceutical sciences in 1994 from the University of Southern California.<\/p>\n

He joined UNMC in July 1998 as an assistant professor in the department<\/p>\n

of pharmaceutical sciences.<\/p>\n

 The AAPS is a professional, scientific society of more than 9,000<\/p>\n

members employed in academia, industry, government and other research institutes<\/p>\n

worldwide. Founded in 1986, the goal of AAPS is to improve human health<\/p>\n

through the development of better pharmaceuticals.<\/p>\n

UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.<\/p>\n

Through its commitment to research, education and patient care, UNMC has<\/p>\n

established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for cancer research<\/p>\n

and treatment and solid organ transplantation. More than $34 million in<\/p>\n

research grants and contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually.<\/p>\n

In addition, UNMC’s educational programs are responsible for training more<\/p>\n

health professionals practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.<\/p>\n
