UNMC, Kutak Rock Offer October Legal Seminar<\/p>\n

The University of Nebraska Medical Center and Kutak Rock is sponsoring<\/p>\n

its Ninth Annual Healthcare Law Institute titled “Physician Office Compliance<\/p>\n

in a Changing Environment,” Friday, Oct. 6.<\/p>\n

Physicians, risk mangers and health care administrators are invited<\/p>\n

to attend the one-day conference at the W.H. Thompson Alumni Center on<\/p>\n

the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus, 67th and Dodge Streets. The<\/p>\n

conference runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m.<\/p>\n

Participants will learn how to establish, monitor and review a compliance<\/p>\n

plan for the physician office; identify the new privacy guidelines for<\/p>\n

electronic medical records; and understand the new federal guidelines released<\/p>\n

by the Office of Inspector General on physician compliance.<\/p>\n

Featured presenters include: Alan Strasser, J.D., Kutak Rock; Cynthia<\/p>\n

Haney, J.D., American Medical Association in Washington, D.C.; and Charles<\/p>\n

Harris, Ph.D., president of Ambulatory Care Centers of America Inc., in<\/p>\n

Butte, Mont.<\/p>\n

Strasser, a litigation partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Kutak<\/p>\n

Rock, will present “Compliance Update – What Physicians Need to Know.”<\/p>\n

He graduated from Harvard Law School, and cum laude from Yale University.<\/p>\n

He has been published in The New York Times.<\/p>\n

Haney, senior Washington counsel at the American Medical Association,<\/p>\n

will present the keynote address on “New Privacy Guidelines for Electronic<\/p>\n

Medical Records.” She is an expert in physician professional standards<\/p>\n

and patient privacy. She earned her law degree from George Washington University.<\/p>\n

Harris, who has published articles on physician joint ventures and change<\/p>\n

management, will present “Physician Practice Structures.” Other presenters<\/p>\n

include: Laurie Kelly, J.D., civil healthcare prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s<\/p>\n

Office; Wayne Henry, J.D., of Kutak Rock; Debra Fiala Breen, M.D., J.D.,<\/p>\n

Kutak Rock; Rodney Markin, M.D., UNMC; Christopher Phillips, J.D., Kutak<\/p>\n

Rock; Barb Pierce, Professional Management Midwest in Des Moines, Iowa;<\/p>\n

and Kimberly Lammers, J.D., Kutak Rock.<\/p>\n

The conference registration fee is $100 through Sept. 5, and $145 after<\/p>\n

Sept. 5. No refunds will be given after Sept. 22. Participants may receive<\/p>\n

up to six hours in Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition<\/p>\n

Award.<\/p>\n
