<\/FONT><\/B><\/p>\n

Fred McCurdy, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Chair for Pediatric Education at<\/p>\n

the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has been selected to attend<\/p>\n

the Executive Leadership Skills in Faculty Development Program. The one-year<\/p>\n

appointment is sponsored by the National Pediatric Faculty Development<\/p>\n

Scholars Program of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association through a grant<\/p>\n

from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).<\/p>\n

The program focuses on providing participants with training on institutional<\/p>\n

mission, vision , and values; faculty and personnel management; as well<\/p>\n

as administrative skills that can be used to enhance pediatric education.<\/p>\n

It provides executive leadership development for educators who teach general<\/p>\n

pediatrics to medical students and residents and fosters development, delivery<\/p>\n

and evaluation of curricula especially as this applies to community-based<\/p>\n

education. Participants are selected for their knowledge and leadership<\/p>\n

experience.<\/p>\n

A native of Hastings, Dr. McCurdy earned his undergraduate degree from<\/p>\n

Hastings College in 1967 and his medical and doctorate degrees from UNMC<\/p>\n

in 1976. He joined the UNMC faculty in 1993.  Prior to this, he had<\/p>\n

a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force retiring in 1993 after 25<\/p>\n

years.  His last duty assignment was as the Director of Education<\/p>\n

Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University<\/p>\n

of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.<\/p>\n

UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.<\/p>\n

Through its commitment to research, education and patient care, UNMC has<\/p>\n

established itself as one of the countrys leading centers for cancer research<\/p>\n

and treatment and solid organ transplantation. More than $34 million in<\/p>\n

research grants and contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually.<\/p>\n

In addition, UNMCs educational programs are responsible for training more<\/p>\n
