The University of Nebraska Medical Center will offer a free mini-medical school for anyone interested in learning about disorders of the lungs and the respiratory system. <\/DIV>
\n

Beginning Sept. 10, the six-week series will run Wednesday nights from 7 to 8:45 p.m in the Cooper Auditorium of the UNMC College of Nursing in Omaha. The series also will be broadcast live via satellite from UNMC to Room 103 of the Agricultural\/Allied Health Building at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. <\/P>
\n

There is no tuition cost to participate in the series, and parking and class guides are also free. Eighteen physicians, pulmonary experts and other health care providers will discuss how the lungs work, conditions that affect breathing from infants to adults, treatment options including lung reduction and transplantation, and other related topics. <\/P>
\n

Diplomas will be presented on graduation night, Oct. 15. This marks the fifth mini-medical school series UNMC has conducted. Previous topics covered were cancer, diabetes, heart disease and women’s health. <\/P>
\n

Registration is required to enter the program and seating is limited. Anyone interested in attending the mini-medical school in Norfolk should call Northeast Community College at (402) 571-2020, or 1-800-348-9033, to register. In Omaha, call (402) 559-2400. <\/P>
\n

UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state. Through its commitment to research, education and patient care, UNMC has established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for cancer research and treatment and solid organ transplantation. Nearly $25 million in research grants and contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually. In addition, UNMC’s educational programs are responsible for training more health professionals practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.<\/P><\/p>\n
