{"id":47552,"date":"1999-07-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-07-30T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/1999\/07\/30\/northeast-community-college-lpn-students-tour-universityof-nebraska-medical-center\/"},"modified":"2022-08-29T10:57:12","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T15:57:12","slug":"northeast-community-college-lpn-students-tour-universityof-nebraska-medical-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/1999\/07\/30\/northeast-community-college-lpn-students-tour-universityof-nebraska-medical-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Northeast Community College LPN Students Tour University\n\nof Nebraska Medical Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><\/FONT><\/B><\/p>\n<p><P>A group of 21 students and instructors from the LPN program at Northwest<\/p>\n<p>Community College in Norfolk recently toured the University of Nebraska<\/p>\n<p>Medical Center in Omaha.<\/p>\n<p><P>While on campus, the group received an in-depth tour, which details<\/p>\n<p>several key UNMC programs and services such as organ transplantation, eating<\/p>\n<p>disorders and clinical perfusion.<\/p>\n<p><P>The UNMC campus is composed of nine major components, including Colleges<\/p>\n<p>of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy, School of Allied Health Professions,<\/p>\n<p>the UNMC\/Eppley Cancer Center, Munroe-Meyer Institute, Lied Transplant<\/p>\n<p>Center and the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.<\/p>\n<p><P>We are happy that the LPN students from Northeast Community College<\/p>\n<p>could come and tour the Medical Center, said Harold M. Maurer, M.D., UNMC<\/p>\n<p>chancellor.&nbsp; We are proud of what we are doing at UNMC, and we love<\/p>\n<p>to share it with Nebraska communities.<\/p>\n<p><P>UNMC, a partner with Nebraska Health System, is the only public academic<\/p>\n<p>health science center in the state. Through its commitment to research,<\/p>\n<p>education, outreach and patient care, UNMC has established itself as one<\/p>\n<p>of the country&#8217;s leading centers for cancer research and treatment and<\/p>\n<p>solid organ transplantation. More than $34 million in research grants and<\/p>\n<p>contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually. In addition, UNMC&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>educational programs are responsible for training more health professionals<\/p>\n<p>practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.<\/p>\n<p><P>Nebraska Health System (NHS) is the partnership of Clarkson Hospital,<\/p>\n<p>the first hospital in Nebraska, and University Hospital, the primary teaching<\/p>\n<p>facility for UNMC. The combined hospital is an 835-bed facility and serves<\/p>\n<p>approximately 25 percent of the Omaha-area market. NHS operates 23 clinics<\/p>\n<p>and health care centers serving Omaha, Plattsmouth, Gretna and Auburn in<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska; and Council Bluffs and Shenandoah in Iowa. In addition, NHS physicians<\/p>\n<p>operate more than 450 outpatient clinics in 100 communities in five states.<\/p>\n<p>NHS provides access to tertiary and primary care including world-class<\/p>\n<p>specialized treatment such as solid organ transplantation, burn care, wound<\/p>\n<p>care, geriatrics, bone marrow (stem cell) transplantation and other cancer<\/p>\n<p>treatments.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group of 21 students and instructors from the LPN program at Northwest Community College in Norfolk recently toured the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
