<\/p>\n

The University of Nebraska Medical Center is currently<\/p>\n

accepting nominations for the 1998 J. G. (Jack) Elliott Award. <\/p>\n

The award is given annually to an individual who has made<\/p>\n

significant contributions to medicine and health programs for the<\/p>\n

state of Nebraska. The award is given in memory of Elliott, a<\/p>\n

former Scottsbluff resident who served on the University of<\/p>\n

Nebraska Board of Regents for 20 years until his death in 1974. <\/p>\n

The recipient will be selected by the chancellor of the<\/p>\n

Medical Center based on input from individuals or groups chosen<\/p>\n

by the chancellor. The award will be presented during UNMC’s<\/p>\n

spring commencement ceremony in Omaha. Nominees are evaluated<\/p>\n

according to the following criteria:<\/p>\n

\n
\n

• A Nebraska resident who has made a significant<\/p>\n

contribution to the health of the state through his or<\/p>\n

her actions.<\/p>\n

• Statewide impact with contributions in the<\/p>\n

areas of education, research and community outreach.<\/p>\n

• The individual’s actions should improve<\/p>\n

individual and community health.<\/p>\n

• The health contributions should be beyond the<\/p>\n

scope of work-related activities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To receive a nomination form, call (402) 559-7377. Nominations<\/p>\n

and supporting materials should be submitted by Feb. 16. <\/p>\n

UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the<\/p>\n

state. Through its commitment to research, education and patient<\/p>\n

care, UNMC has established itself as one of the country’s leading<\/p>\n

centers for cancer research and treatment and solid organ<\/p>\n

transplantation. Nearly $25 million in research grants and<\/p>\n

contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually. In addition,<\/p>\n

UNMC’s educational programs are responsible for training more<\/p>\n

health professionals practicing in Nebraska than any other<\/p>\n
