The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing in Omaha<\/p>\n

will host an open house on Sunday, April 22, from 1 to 3 p.m., for those<\/p>\n

interested in learning about nursing careers, advanced nursing degrees<\/p>\n

and current jobs in nursing. The open house will be held at the colleges<\/p>\n

Cooper Auditorium, located at 42nd Street and Dewey Avenue 2nd Floor.<\/p>\n

Those who attend can learn about the UNMC College of Nursings undergraduate,<\/p>\n

graduate and doctoral nursing programs, including degrees available through<\/p>\n

distance technology, as well as financial aid, scholarship, and the admission<\/p>\n

process. Tours of the college also will be available.<\/p>\n

Nursing specialists will be available to talk about their specialty,<\/p>\n

including a nurse practitioner, pediatric nurse, critical care nurse and<\/p>\n

labor and delivery nurse. A nurse recruiter for Nebraska Health System<\/p>\n

University Hospital and Clarkson Hospital will be on hand to talk about<\/p>\n

job opportunities. Refreshments will be available.<\/p>\n

The event is being held to promote nursing education and opportunities.<\/p>\n

The nursing shortage in Nebraska is cause for concern among nursing colleges,<\/p>\n

hospitals, Nebraskans and legislators who are working together on a solution.<\/p>\n

As the population ages, the shortage is expected to worsen if not successfully<\/p>\n

addressed.<\/p>\n

Higher degrees in nursing are important because they enable nurses<\/p>\n

to function in a variety of roles and settings, said Dani Eveloff, recruitment<\/p>\n

coordinator for the college. There are many benefits in a nursing career<\/p>\n

including job flexibility, good pay, bonuses and loan repayment, job security<\/p>\n

and a personal sense of fulfillment in a career choice.<\/p>\n

Children are welcome. An exploratory room with educational health<\/p>\n

activities will be set up for children. Faculty will be available to speak<\/p>\n

with participants. Free parking is available in the parking lot just to<\/p>\n

the east of the college.<\/p>\n
