Thirty-eight students have been accepted into the physician assistant<\/p>\n

program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for fall 2001. <\/p>\n

These 38 were selected out of 180 prospective candidates. Physician assistant<\/p>\n

students spend 28 months of intensive training in all areas of the medical<\/p>\n

field.<\/p>\n

Applicants must possess a bachelors degree or have completed necessary<\/p>\n

course work in biological sciences, chemistry, psychology, mathematics<\/p>\n

and English.<\/p>\n

A physician assistant provides many health services including: physical<\/p>\n

exams, diagnosing illness, developing and carrying out treatment plans,<\/p>\n

and interpreting lab tests. A physician assistant can provide about 80<\/p>\n

percent of the services required in a primary care practice.<\/p>\n
