The University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Rural Health Education Network
\n(RHEN) recently awarded a total of $23,689 to 10 health, governmental or
\ncommunity organizations in rural Nebraska. <\/P><\/p>\n

The grants were awarded to organizations that have developed programs,
\nwhich work to educate the future health-care professionals of rural Nebraska.
\n<\/P><\/p>\n

"One of UNMC’s goals is to educate future health-care professionals
\nin Nebraska. In line with that goal, RHEN works to educate students from
\nrural communities in hopes that these students will return to rural communities
\nto practice their profession," said Roxanna Jokela, RHEN coordinator.
\n"By awarding grants to these communities, we are continuing our effort
\nto develop strong partnerships throughout Nebraska and educate those with
\na desire to practice medicine in rural communities." <\/P><\/p>\n

BEATRICE: Beatrice Community Hospital;Health Care Careers Opportunity
\nDay<\/P><\/p>\n

BROKEN BOW: Melham Medical Foundation;Applications of Life Science
\nCourse<\/P><\/p>\n

CAMBRIDGE: Tri Valley Health System;Kids Discover<\/P><\/p>\n

CRETE: Saline County School-to-Work Program;Saline County Health Quest<\/P><\/p>\n

HASTINGS: South Central Rural Health Education Network (SCHREN);Health
\nScience Camp<\/P><\/p>\n

MINDEN: Kearney County Health Services;Perpetuation of Kearney County’s
\nHealth Care Professionals<\/P><\/p>\n

NORTH PLATTE: C.R.E.W. School-to-Work;Rural Health Careers for All<\/P><\/p>\n

OSCEOLA: Polk County Cooperative Extension;Polk County Eighth Grade
\nHealth<\/P><\/p>\n

SCOTTSBLUFF: Sugar Valley Careers Coalition;Health Careers Academy<\/P><\/p>\n

YORK: York General Hospital;"The Groundhog; He’s not the Only
\nOne Shadowing"<\/P><\/p>\n

UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.
\nThrough its commitment to research, education and patient care, UNMC has
\nestablished itself as one of the country’s leading centers for cancer research
\nand treatment and solid organ transplantation. More than $27 million in
\nresearch grants and contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually.
\nIn addition, UNMC’s educational programs are responsible for training more
\nhealth professionals practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.
