Lincoln resident, Omaha native and former dean of the University of<\/p>\n

Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry, Richard Bradley, D.D.S.,<\/p>\n

has recently been inducted as president of the American College of Dentists.<\/p>\n

He currently teaches dentistry part-time at the UNMC College of Dentistry<\/p>\n

in Lincoln.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bradley, who graduated from Omaha Benson High School in 1944, earned<\/p>\n

a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1952 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.<\/p>\n

From 1952 to 1956, he practiced general dentistry in Omaha then did a post-doctoral<\/p>\n

research fellowship at the University of Iowa until 1958.<\/p>\n

Throughout his career, he held a variety of academic titles at various<\/p>\n

institutions, including the University of Iowa, Creighton University and<\/p>\n

the UNMC College of Dentistry. At UNMC, he served from 1959 to 1967, rising<\/p>\n

from assistant professor to full professor and serving as chairman of various<\/p>\n

departments. From 1967 to 1968, he served as associate dean of the college.<\/p>\n

He was appointed as dean in 1968 and held this position for the next 12<\/p>\n

years.<\/p>\n

From 1980 to 1990, he served as president and dean of the Baylor College<\/p>\n

of Dentistry in Dallas. He retired in 1990 and was named president and<\/p>\n

dean emeritus at that time.<\/p>\n

Being involved with the American College of Dentists is very rewarding,<\/p>\n

Dr. Bradley said. It will be a busy year traveling around the United States<\/p>\n

fulfilling the various duties.<\/p>\n

The American College of Dentists is a nonprofit professional organization<\/p>\n

of dentists who have exemplified excellence through outstanding leadership<\/p>\n

and exceptional contributions to dentistry, the dental profession, and<\/p>\n

society. The American College of Dentists was founded Aug. 20, 1920 to<\/p>\n

elevate the standards of dentistry, to encourage graduate study, and to<\/p>\n

grant fellowship to those who have done meritorious work.<\/p>\n

Its mission is to promote excellence, ethics, and  professionalism<\/p>\n

in dentistry. There are nearly 7,000 active and retired fellows in the<\/p>\n

organization. Fellows are selected based on contributions to organized<\/p>\n

dentistry, oral health care, dental research, dental education, the profession,<\/p>\n

and society.<\/p>\n
