<\/FONT><\/B><\/p>\n

 More than 115 students and teachers attended the second annual<\/p>\n

University of Nebraska Medical Center Rural Health Professions Career Day<\/p>\n

held earlier this fall. The event introduced students with an interest<\/p>\n

in science to the multitude of careers available in the health sciences.<\/p>\n

 Students from more than 27 schools attended the day-long event,<\/p>\n

which is sponsored by the UNMC Rural Health Education Network and the Student<\/p>\n

Association for Rural Health.<\/p>\n

 Students met one-on-one with UNMC representatives from the colleges<\/p>\n

of dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy, the school of allied health<\/p>\n

professions and financial aid. UNMC students met with the group at lunch<\/p>\n

to answer questions and offer advice.<\/p>\n

 In the afternoon, each student attended three 45-minute informational<\/p>\n

sessions from among nine topics: nursing, physical therapy, medical technology,<\/p>\n

financial aid, medicine, physician assistant, dentistry, radiography or<\/p>\n

pharmacy.<\/p>\n

About one-half of the physicians, pharmacists, dental professionals<\/p>\n

and allied health professionals practicing in Nebraska were trained at<\/p>\n

UNMC. The Rural Health Professions Career Day is one of many UNMC efforts<\/p>\n

to assist in Growing Our Own future health professionals for Nebraska.<\/p>\n
