<\/FONT><\/B><\/P><\/p>\n

John Tinker, M.D., has been appointed professor and chairman of the
\nUniversity of Nebraska Medical Center department of anesthesiology. Since
\n1983, Dr. Tinker served as professor and head of the department of anesthesia
\nat the University of Iowa. Prior to that, he worked in the Mayo Clinic’s
\ncardiovascular anesthesiology department, from 1974 to 1983, serving as
\ndepartment chief the last five years. <\/P><\/p>\n

"Dr. Tinker brings important clinical and academic strengths to
\nUNMC, in addition to leadership skills and considerable experience,"
\nsaid Harold M. Maurer, M.D., College of Medicine dean. "He has built
\none of the major anesthesiology departments in the United States. These
\nattributes are critically important as we strive to achieve excellence
\ntogether." <\/P><\/p>\n

Dr. Tinker’s main area of research interest is coronary physiology and
\nanesthetics. As part of this research, he has developed new anesthetic
\nagents for use in the operating room. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr.
\nTinker received his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from the University
\nof Cincinnati College of Engineering in 1964 and his medical degree, summa
\ncum laude and was valedictorian for four years at the University of Cincinnati
\nCollege of Medicine in 1968. <\/P><\/p>\n

He completed his internship in internal medicine in 1969 at the Peter
\nBent Brigham Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston and also completed
\nhis residency training in general surgery and anesthesiology from the hospital
\nas well as a pediatric residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and a residency
\nin obstetric anesthesiology from Boston Lying-In Hospital. <\/P><\/p>\n

He is co-author of one of the two major textbooks in the anesthesiology
\nfield, and has more than 200 publications to his credit. Currently, he
\nserves as editor in chief of the Yearbook of Anesthesia and Pain Management.
\nDr. Tinker has served on numerous national committees, including those
\nat the National Institutes of Health and with the American Society of Anesthesiology.
