University Medical Associates, the physician group for the University of Nebraska Medical Center, has opened its first primary care health center in Iowa. <\/P><\/DIV>
\n

UMA at Council Bluffs is located at 1751 Madison Ave. and provides internal and family medicine services. The facility opened Sept. 2. The public is invited to attend a free open house, Saturday, Sept. 20 at the new health center. The open house, which will include a variety of health-related and children’s activities, will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. <\/P>
\n

Open house activities include blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings, as well as face-painting, teddy-bear and doll check-ups, and hand-washing demonstrations. <\/P>
\n

The health center facility includes 11 examination rooms, a procedure room, an X-ray room and a phlebotomy lab. <\/P>
\n

Health-care providers at the center include William Hay, M.D., family medicine; and Brent Crouse, M.D., and Sue Schwerdfaeger, M.D., internal medicine. <\/P>
\n

“Our goal is to provide quality care throughout the area — in Nebraska and in Iowa,” said Cory Shaw, administrative director. “Quality care also means care that’s accessible. People shouldn’t have to travel far to see a health-care professional.” <\/P>
\n

Besides UMA at Council Bluffs, University Medical Associates also operates a cardiology clinic in Council Bluffs at 201 Ridge St., Suite 202, which is adjacent to Jennie Edmundson Hospital. <\/P>
\n

The UMA physician group includes nearly 325 physicians. These physicians offer services in 50 specialities and sub-specialities ranging from family medicine to transplantation and provide outpatient care at UNMC and in 11 neighborhood health-care centers throughout the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. <\/P>
\n

Health center hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday. <\/P>
\n
