U.S. News &World Report has ranked five colleges or programs at<\/p>\n

the University of Nebraska Medical Center among the top graduate programs<\/p>\n

in the country, as well as recognizing the UNMC College of Medicine as<\/p>\n

67th among the top research medical schools. Rankings of graduate programs<\/p>\n

include all post-baccalaureate areas, including those in the health professions.<\/p>\n

The 2004 rankings appear in the April 7 issue of U.S. News & World<\/p>\n

Reports Americas Best Graduate Schools guidebook.<\/p>\n

The rankings include: the College of Medicine, which ranked 67th among<\/p>\n

the top research medical schools; the College of Medicines primary care<\/p>\n

program (ranked 22 out of approximately 140 medical schools); the College<\/p>\n

of Nursings masters degree program (ranked 39 out of approximately 260<\/p>\n

schools); the School of Allied Health Professions ‘ physician assistant<\/p>\n

program (ranked 14 out of approximately 40 schools) and the College of<\/p>\n

Medicines rural health medicine program (ranked 10th of approximately<\/p>\n

125 schools) and the School of Allied Health Professions’ physical therapy<\/p>\n

program was ranked 42nd in the year 2000 rankings, which were included<\/p>\n

in this years listing.<\/p>\n

The annual health disciplines rankings were released today. The 2004<\/p>\n

edition of the newsstand book, America’s Best Graduate Schools, hits<\/p>\n

newsstands April 7. Many of the ranking categories also will appear in<\/p>\n

the April 14 edition of U.S. News & World Report, the weekly newsmagazine,<\/p>\n

which also goes on sale April 7.<\/p>\n

The magazines national rankings certainly validate some of the outstanding<\/p>\n

programs we have at UNMC, and our programs that are ranked this year have<\/p>\n

been viewed as outstanding previously, said David Crouse, Ph.D., interim<\/p>\n

vice chancellor for academic affairs at UNMC. We are pleased with their<\/p>\n

strong showing but there are limitations in any ranking system and we urge<\/p>\n

students to use many sources when selecting a graduate or professional<\/p>\n

program.<\/p>\n

Rankings from the “Best Graduate Schools” are available online at www.usnews.com.<\/p>\n

The online edition includes longer lists of some specialty rankings, as<\/p>\n

well as additional school directory information. The UNMC programs listed<\/p>\n

above all appear in the guidebook.<\/p>\n

The annual America’s Best Graduate Schools report began in 1990. Editors<\/p>\n

say a ranking is one of the criteria students should consider when selecting<\/p>\n

a graduate school in addition to the student’s academic and professional<\/p>\n

ambitions, financial resources, scholastic record, along with a school’s<\/p>\n

size, atmosphere and location.<\/p>\n
