<\/FONT><\/B><\/p>\n

Yvette Holly, an 18-year veteran of the University of Nebraska Medical<\/p>\n

Center, was recently named executive director of UNMC Information Technology<\/p>\n

Services. Holly succeeds Ed Rejda who served as executive director of ITS<\/p>\n

from 1981 until 1999. Upon Rejda’s retirement in April, Holly served as<\/p>\n

interim executive director of ITS and continued her role as director of<\/p>\n

computing services\/telecommunications.<\/p>\n

“I am thrilled Yvette accepted the position,” said UNMC Chancellor Harold<\/p>\n

M. Maurer, M.D. “She is a true leader on campus and has done an excellent<\/p>\n

job as interim director. Her leadership will help position the medical<\/p>\n

center to do great things. It is commendable that she worked her way up<\/p>\n

to this position after originally starting at a junior position in the<\/p>\n

field at UNMC.”<\/p>\n

Holly was selected after a national search chaired by Rod Markin, M.D.,<\/p>\n

professor and vice chairman of pathology and microbiology and president<\/p>\n

of University Medical Associates.<\/p>\n

“Yvette was the clear choice for this position. I appreciate the search<\/p>\n

committee’s hard work and dedication,” said Don Leuenberger, UNMC vice<\/p>\n

chancellor of business and finance. “Yvette continuously shows her commitment<\/p>\n

to helping UNMC maintain its vision. I am confident she will enable UNMC<\/p>\n

to meet the challenges of tomorrow and beyond.”<\/p>\n


Holly, who has played a key role in implementing UNMC’s campus strategic<\/p>\n

plan, said she looks forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.<\/p>\n

“An exciting future awaits UNMC as it moves toward its vision of becoming<\/p>\n

a world class academic health sciences center,” she said. “I welcome the<\/p>\n

opportunity to play a key role in the leadership and direction of information<\/p>\n

technology services in support of UNMC’s vision.”<\/p>\n

Holly oversees a staff of more than 130 employees and is responsible<\/p>\n

for the provision of data, voice and video services to the Medical Center’s<\/p>\n

faculty, staff and students.<\/p>\n

“I look forward to partnering with UNMC’s leadership team, faculty and<\/p>\n

staff in support of strategic initiatives in research, education and patient<\/p>\n

care,” Holly said.<\/p>\n

Her responsibilities include overseeing delivery of information technology<\/p>\n

support services to NHS. Holly earned her bachelors degree in computer<\/p>\n

science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1981.<\/p>\n

She then joined UNMC as a systems analyst. She was promoted to manager<\/p>\n

of administrative computing in 1984. In 1989, she was promoted to assistant<\/p>\n

director of computing services\/telecommunications, a position she held<\/p>\n

until 1997 when she was named director of the department.<\/p>\n

A search for director of computing services\/telecommunications will<\/p>\n

follow Holly’s appointment to executive director of ITS.<\/p>\n

UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.<\/p>\n

Through its commitment to research, education, outreach and patient care,<\/p>\n

UNMC has established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for<\/p>\n

cancer research and treatment, solid organ transplantation and arthritis.<\/p>\n

During the past year, nearly $31 million in research grants and contracts<\/p>\n

were awarded to UNMC scientists, and UNMCs funding from the National Institutes<\/p>\n

of Health increased by 28 percent, going from $16.2 million to $20.7 million.<\/p>\n

UNMCs educational programs are responsible for training more health professionals<\/p>\n

practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.<\/p>\n
