Dr. Buehler will talk about how genes influence disease and how nutrition, supplements and lifestyle changes can change the odds.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">Dr. Buehler began his career working with children and adults with disabilities at the University of Florida. He later spent time in Utah before he joined UNMC in 1981 as associate professor of pediatrics and pathology, and director of the Hattie B. Munroe Center for Human Genetics. He later became director of the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute. He continues to practice clinical genetics throughout the region.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">The Science Cafes are part of an effort by UNMC and other groups to increase the population&rsquo;s science literacy. Hosted by UNMC, BioNebraska and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures,<span style=\"color: black\"> Science Cafes are held the first Tuesday of each month.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>A more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC&rsquo;s strategic plan. <span style=\"color: black\">The goal of the committee has been to introduce and get young adults interested in science by presenting it in a casual setting. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">Free pizza will be provided for the first 50 people by the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">In July, Mellissa Helligso, <span style=\"color: black\">a forensic DNA analyst at UNMC,<\/span> brought personal work experiences with criminal forensics to the Slowdown.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">For more information on upcoming and past Science Cafes, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/sciencecafe\">www.unmc.edu\/sciencecafe<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">Upcoming Omaha Science Cafe:<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">Sept. 1 &ndash;
