Dr. Vose, the <\/span>Neumann M. and Mildred E. Harris Professorial Chair <span style=\"color: black\">and chief of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine Section of Hematology\/Oncology, begins her four-year term in June.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">ASCO is the world&rsquo;s leading professional organization representing physicians who treat people with cancer. It also sets the standard for patient care worldwide and leads the way in carrying out clinical research aimed at improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;This is a very exciting opportunity for UNMC to be involved in setting national health care standards and policies in hematology and oncology,&rdquo; said Dr. Vose, who is <\/span>considered one of the country&#8217;s leading experts on lymphoma. <span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;It will give us a voice and a seat at the table with other oncology leaders from around the country and world to improve oncology clinical care, research, and education.&rdquo;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">Lynell Klassen, M.D., professor and chief of the <span style=\"color: black\">UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, said Dr. Vose&rsquo;s election to the board is a testimony to her expertise and international recognition in clinical oncology. &ldquo;It reflects what she&rsquo;s done,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;To be elected at this level by a group of peers is truly noteworthy.&rdquo;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">Dr. Vose graduated in 1978 with a bachelor&rsquo;s degree from South Dakota State University, then graduated from UNMC&rsquo;s medical technology program with distinction in 1979. In 1984, she earned her medical degree from UNMC, where she also did her residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in oncology\/hematology.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">Dr. Vose is principal investigator or co-investigator of two National Cancer Institute grants and other clinical research grants totaling more than $6 million. She has authored or co-authored 240 manuscripts, 40 book chapters and 230 abstracts and has given more than 400 lectures and presentations internationally.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 9pt\">As the state&rsquo;s only academic health science center, UNMC is on the leading edge of health care.
