Third world dental mission trips, oral surgery and anesthesia techniques top the list of topics being presented during this year’s dental education caravan.<\/p>\n

Dentists from the UNMC College of Dentistry will provide updates in dentistry to dental professionals in four Nebraska communities May 10-13 during the 22nd<\/sup> Annual Continuing Education Caravan. Those who attend will receive 3.5 hours of free continuing dental education credit.<\/p>\n

The caravan will stop in Ashland, Grand Island, North Platte and Scottsbluff. Presentations will be given by James Jenkins, D.D.S., and Bruce Bavitz, D.D.S.<\/p>\n

In addition, John Reinhardt, D.D.S., dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry, will present a brief update on education, research, patient care and outreach activities at the college. Dr. Reinhardt is available for media interviews following the presentations with the exception of May 13.<\/p>\n

The programs will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at each of the following locations:<\/p>\n

May 10 – Ashland, Strategic Air & Space Museum<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

May 11 – Grand Island, Quality Inn & Suites (formerly the Interstate Holiday Inn)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

May 12 – North Platte, Quality Inn & Suites<\/p>\n

May 13 – Scottsbluff, Harms Advanced Technology Center at Western Nebraska Community College<\/p>\n

The agenda at each location is as follows:<\/p>\n

1 p.m. – Greeting and introduction by Merlyn Vogt, D.D.S., assistant professor in the department of surgical specialties.<\/p>\n

1:10 p.m. – UNMC College of Dentistry update by Dean John Reinhardt, D.D.S.<\/p>\n

1:30 p.m. – "So, you want to go on a third world dental mission trip?" Dr. James Jenkins.<\/p>\n

3:15 p.m. – "Novel and pragmatic oral surgery and anesthesia techniques," Dr. Bruce Bavitz.<\/p>\n
