Will look to boost research studies along with M.P.H. and Ph.D. programs <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Jane Meza, Ph.D., has been named chairperson of the department of biostatistics in the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health. She was formerly the interim chairperson of the department.<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
In her new position, Dr. Meza will oversee the academic programs and collaborative research projects.<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
"Our focus is on building new educational programs including, a recently established concentration in biostatistics for the master’s of public health program (M.P.H)," said Dr. Meza, who earned her undergraduate, master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
In addition to these goals, the department plans to:<\/div>\n
·                     <\/span><\/span>Increase recruitment of students to the biostatistics concentration of the M.P.H. program;<\/div>\n
·                     <\/span><\/span>Build a Ph.D. program in biostatistics; and<\/div>\n
·                     <\/span><\/span>Continue campus involvement in research studies and with the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Dr. Meza said faculty members in her department are not only interested in data analysis but also in study design. They also work with clinical, observational and population-based studies.<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
"Jane has led the department as interim chair for two years and I’m pleased to select her as its permanent chair," said Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H., dean of UNMC’s College of Public Health. "She has a keen interest in academic growth and will no doubt lead the biostatistics department to increased recognition and service."<\/div>\n
