Stuttering is <\/span>the topic of the next Science Café, at 6:30 p.m., <\/span>March 31<\/span>, at red9, 9th<\/sup> and M Streets in Lincoln. Attendees will hear from E. Charles Healey, Ph.D., a professor of speech-language pathology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.<\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Healey has taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the past 33 years. During his career, he has received a distinguished teaching award, the honors of the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association, a distinguished alumni award from the University of Kentucky, and is an <\/font><\/span>American Speech-Language Hearing Association<\/font><\/span><\/a> (ASHA) fellow. <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

He is currently an ASHA board-recognized specialist in fluency disorders and an associate editor for the Journal of Fluency Disorders<\/i>. Dr. Healey has published many journal articles and book chapters concerning adults and children with fluency disorders. <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

He also has presented numerous workshops and seminars on the assessment and treatment of school-age children who stutter. <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

Science Café is a free educational event sponsored by UNMC and other groups to increase the population’s science literacy. Hosted by UNMC, <\/font>BioNebraska<\/font><\/a> and the <\/font>Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures<\/font><\/a>, Science Cafes are held the first Tuesday of each month.<\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

A more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC’s strategic plan. The goal of the committee has been to introduce and get young adults interested in science by presenting it in a casual setting.<\/span><\/p>\n
