{"id":49190,"date":"2011-04-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-27T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/04\/27\/unmc-administrator-appointed-to-national-advisory-committee\/"},"modified":"2022-08-28T19:16:32","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T00:16:32","slug":"unmc-administrator-appointed-to-national-advisory-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2011\/04\/27\/unmc-administrator-appointed-to-national-advisory-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC administrator appointed to national advisory committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><b><i><span style=\"color: black\">Will provide key voice for health care workforce needs of rural communities<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/hageman.htm\">Patricia Hageman, Ph.D.,<\/a> professor and former program director of physical therapy education in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/\">University of Nebraska Medical Center&rsquo;s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/\">School of Allied Health Professions<\/a>, has been appointed to a three-year term on an external advisory committee for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">Dr. Hageman, who continues to serve as a UNMC faculty member in physical therapy education, &nbsp;is the only Nebraskan on the 21-member committee appointed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/secretary\/about\/biography\/index.html\">Kathleen Sebelius<\/a>, secretary of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/\">Department of Health and Human Services<\/a> (DHHS). <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">The committee provides policy and programming advice and recommendations to Sebelius and the DHHS with the goal of creating a diverse health care workforce that promotes high quality health care to underserved areas such as rural communities. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">Dr. Hageman has dedicated her career to developing innovative solutions that meet the health care workforce needs of Nebraska, said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/turman.htm\">Jack Turman Jr., Ph.D.,<\/a> program director of UNMC&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/pt.htm\">Division of Physical Therapy Education<\/a>. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"line-height: normal;margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;She has worked on rural health initiatives, improved the quality of geriatric health care through outreach education to practitioners, and, through her research, enhanced the health status of Nebraska&rsquo;s midlife and older rural women,&rdquo; Dr. Turman said. &nbsp;&ldquo;I am thrilled to see Dr. Hageman&rsquo;s knowledge, experience and skill recognized at the national level.
