Will be studying abdominal aortic aneurysms in UNMC surgery laboratory<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

CHICAGO<\/span><\/b> – John Mitchell, a laboratory assistant at the University of Nebraska Medical Center<\/a>, is one of eight students to receive a $3,000 stipend from The Society for Vascular Surgery® <\/sup>Foundation<\/a> for a research fellowship. The stipends were awarded at the Vascular Annual Meeting® <\/sup>held in Chicago last month. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

During his one-year fellowship, Mitchell will be studying abdominal aortic aneurysms in the laboratory of Timothy Baxter, M.D.,<\/a> professor in the department of surgery at UNMC. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

An Omaha native, Mitchell is a 2007 graduate of Creighton Prep High School<\/a> and expects to complete his undergraduate degree in exercise science at the University of Kansas<\/a> later this year. The fellowship is designed to provide students with research experience to help them determine possible career options. <\/span><\/p>\n

·              <\/span><\/span><\/span>Daniel Lee, <\/span><\/b>University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, N.Y.;<\/span><\/p>\n

·              <\/span><\/span><\/span>Doran Mix, <\/span><\/b>University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, N.Y.; and<\/span><\/p>\n

The awards are made to United States or Canadian institutions where students are conducting two to 12-month research projects. All awardees are sponsored by a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery. <\/span><\/p>\n

Upon completion of their research, awardees must submit a written report to the Society for Vascular Surgery Research and Education Committee. <\/span><\/p>\n
