Attendees will hear from <\/font><\/span><span style=\"line-height: 115%;color: black;font-size: 10pt\">Kristen Lucas, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the department of communication studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, discuss what workplace dignity is, how it is enhanced or undermined through day-to-day communicative interactions at work sites, and how it ultimately impacts employee performance and well-being.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;color: black;font-size: 10pt\"><font face=\"Calibri\">Dr. Lucas&rsquo; research and teaching specialties center on workplace dignity, particularly as it relates to communicative interactions and professional identity. She has published her research in journals such as Management Communication Quarterly and the Journal of Applied Communication Research.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;color: black;font-size: 10pt\"><font face=\"Calibri\">Most recently, Dr. Lucas has initiated research examining workplace dignity from a cross-cultural perspective, including European and Asian contexts. She regularly teaches workshops on workplace dignity, as well as semester-long university courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: black\"><font size=\"3\" face=\"Calibri\">Science Cafe is a free educational event sponsored by UNMC and other groups to increase the population&rsquo;s science literacy. Hosted by UNMC, <\/font><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bionebraska.com\/\"><span><font color=\"#0000ff\" size=\"3\" face=\"Calibri\">Bio Nebraska<\/font><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: black\"><font size=\"3\" face=\"Calibri\"> and the <\/font><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/nebraskacures.com\/\"><span><font color=\"#0000ff\" size=\"3\" face=\"Calibri\">Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures<\/font><\/span><\/a><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Calibri\"><span style=\"color: black\">, Science Cafes are held the first Tuesday of each month in Omaha and one Thursday every other month in Lincoln.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 115%;color: black;font-size: 10pt\"><\/span><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">A more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC&rsquo;s strategic plan.
