{"id":49289,"date":"2014-04-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-28T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/04\/28\/bone-health-topic-of-may-5-lincoln-science-cafe\/"},"modified":"2022-08-22T16:12:46","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T21:12:46","slug":"bone-health-topic-of-may-5-lincoln-science-cafe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/04\/28\/bone-health-topic-of-may-5-lincoln-science-cafe\/","title":{"rendered":"Bone health topic of May 5 Lincoln Science Cafe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>\nMaintaining strong bones is the topic of the next Lincoln Science Caf&eacute; at 7 p.m. on May 5 at Brewsky&rsquo;s, 201 N. 8<sup>th<\/sup> St., in Lincoln.<\/p>\n<p>\nNancy Waltman, Ph.D., APRN-NP, a professor in the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing-Lincoln division, will discuss controversies surrounding diet, calcium and Vitamin D, exercises and medications related to bone health.<\/p>\n<p>\nDr. Waltman has a master&rsquo;s degree in nursing, a doctoral degree in educational administration and instruction, and is a certified adult nurse practitioner.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe has taught courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Currently, she is teaching courses for advanced practice nurses in health assessment, clinical medicine, and oncology.<\/p>\n<p>\nDr Waltman&rsquo;s research has focused on cancer nursing and osteoporosis. Her current research is on prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in breast cancer survivors. Funding sources have included the Oncology Nursing Society and the National Institutes of Health.<\/p>\n<p>\nScience Caf&eacute;s involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone (21 and older), and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. Each meeting is organized around an interesting topic of conversation.
