\nTwo University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing doctoral students have been selected to receive scholarships from the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program.<\/p>\n

\nTerri Khan and Marcia Shade of Omaha, each will receive two-year grants for $20,000 to help support their doctoral education. They also will attend the Jonas Scholars Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., in October.<\/p>\n

\nKhan is a student in the doctor of nursing practice program and Shade is a student in the doctor of philosophy in nursing program.<\/p>\n

\nKhan is implementing a psychiatric care transition model that integrates hospital- and community-based interventions to improve self-management behaviors. Khan practices as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Lutheran Family Services in Omaha.<\/p>\n

\nShade is conducting research on prescription drug interactions in adults. She works as a research assistant at UNMC.<\/p>\n

\nCreated in 2008, the scholarships support education development of new nursing faculty as well as promotes cooperation with affiliate clinics in the community. The scholarships prepare doctoral candidates to help students address the needs of future patients providing culturally competent care.<\/p>\n

\nThe Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program awarded 300 scholarships this year to students representing all 50 states.<\/p>\n
