Ready. Set. Give. <\/p>\n

On May 21, from midnight to midnight, join others in supporting local nonprofits in Omaha through Omaha Gives, an online giving event that brings donors together to support the work of organizations throughout the Omaha community.<\/p>\n

One such organization is UNMC SHARING (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups) Clinics.<\/p>\n

Through Omaha Gives, the SHARING Clinics join 570 other nonprofits serving Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties participating in Omaha’s second annual charitable challenge. Donors have the opportunity to make gifts of $10 or more to support their favorite nonprofits. And participating organizations will compete for prizes given to those ranking in the top 10 of dollars raised and participation. Every gift will earn a percentage-based match from the Omaha Community Foundation.<\/p>\n

UNMC SHARING Clinics strive to enhance the well-being of the community by providing high-quality, low-cost health care and human services to those in need. The organization oversees four student-run clinics in Omaha that involve more than 30 UNMC faculty members who regularly volunteer their time. <\/p>\n

These clinics are dedicated to primary health care, HIV and STD testing, primary care for Type 2 diabetes and vision care. They provide continuity of care at no or minimal cost to patients and encourage preventive care and wellness through patient education.<\/p>\n

The UNMC SHARING Clinics offer care in multidisciplinary education settings that empower patients and instill the values of service and compassion in UNMC students.<\/p>\n

Since the organization’s creation in 1997, the SHARING Clinics have provided medical care to more than 1,400 patients annually.<\/p>\n

UNMC and the University of Nebraska Foundation are helping promote support of UNMC SHARING Clinics through Omaha Gives! via social media, a postcard mailing and other communications.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
