\nA golf tournament to support Parkinson’s disease research, outreach and education in Nebraska will be held June 28 at Hi Mark Golf Course, 8901 Augusta Drive, in Lincoln.<\/p>\n

\nThe American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) is hosting the golf tournament in collaboration with the department of neurological sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and The Nebraska Medical Center.<\/p>\n

\nParkinson’s disease is a chronic progressive neurological disorder that affects more than 1.5 million people in the United States.<\/p>\n

\n“Nebraska has one of the highest prevalence rates with 329 of every 100,000 people in the state living with Parkinson’s disease,” said Karen Anderson, Parkinson’s resource coordinator and speech pathologist with the APDA.<\/p>\n

\nThe APDA provides service to 22 support groups, develops patient and provider education and supports ongoing research.<\/p>\n

\nAll proceeds from the golf tournament, which begins at 8 a.m., will go toward supporting those goals, Anderson said.<\/p>\n

\n“At this time, there is no cure,” she said. “So it is vital to continue to support research and programs that ease the burden and seek a cure.”<\/p>\n
