The goal is to recognize students for what they are doing and to encourage other students to get involved in the community. After all, medical school should be much more than studying.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Personal: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nBorn: Omaha<\/p>\n<p>\nEducation: Creighton Preparatory High School; Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Activities: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nVolunteering with Do JuSTIce (Douglas County United with Students to Impact a Citywide Epidemic) &ndash; offering STD education, information and testing to inmates at the Douglas County jail and sexual health presentations to youth at Douglas County Youth Corrections.<\/p>\n<p>\nHIV research.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Hobbies: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nReading non-medical books when I can, skiing (poorly), running with my dog, trying new foods.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Staying Balanced: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\nBalanced diet, staying in touch with family and friends, hot yoga (when time and my wallet permits).<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Three things people may not know about you:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nBefore beginning medical school, I spent a year teaching English to medical students and doctors at Bashkir State Medical University in Ufa, Russia.<\/li>\n<li>\nMy girlfriend, Theresa, an occupational health nut, is a graduate of the UNMC College of Public Health and is currently completing a fellowship at the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health in Morgantown, W.V.<\/li>\n<li>\nI am 50 percent Italian plus a mix of Irish, Welsh and French.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each month, InterCOM will highlight a &#8220;Student of the Month&#8221; from the College of Medicine.
