\n<\/TABLE>Bernice Yates, Ph.D.,<\/b> is lead author of a paper that was selected for the Western Journal of Nursing Research Outstanding Faculty Manuscript Award. The paper is titled: “Reducing cardiovascular risk in spouses of cardiac patients: A randomized controlled trial.” Co-authors are Kevin Kupzyk, Ph.D., and Joseph Norman, Ph.D., <\/b>of UNMC; former UNMC faculty member, Scott Shurmur, M.D.; Sheri Rowland and Kerry Mancuso of The Nebraska Medical Center; and Karen Tesina of Nebraska Methodist Hospital.<\/p>\n

Dan Murman, M.D.,<\/b> professor, neurological sciences, has been selected to receive the Alzheimer’s Association Research Award. The award recognizes Dr. Murman for his significant contributions and work to further the cause of the association. He will receive the award at the Alzheimer’s Association All Stars Gala on July 19 at the Hilton Omaha.<\/p>\n

James Armitage, M.D.<\/b>, has joined Oncology Analytics’ Distinguished Academic Advisory Board. As a member of the board, he will promote and reinforce value-based cancer care. Oncology Analytics provides chemotherapy decision support services and technology solutions used by more than 4,000 physicians and covering more than 1.5 million members for national health plans. Through clinical research, patented technology and physician-centric customer services, the organization ensures oncologists have the information they need to deliver the most effective, least toxic and most affordable chemotherapy treatments available to patients.<\/p>\n

Iraklis Pipinos, M.D.,<\/b> and B. Timothy Baxter, M.D.<\/b>, surgery — general surgery, have each received awards from the Society for Vascular Surgery for projects done under their tutelage. Cole Bowdino<\/b> received a Student Research Fellowship Award for his project “The Role of T Regulatory Cells in Aneurysm Formation” with Dr. Pipinos. An EJ Wylie Traveling Fellows Award was received by Dr. Baxter’s group for their project “Contribution of Genetic Variation to Aneurysm Formation.”<\/p>\n

Diana Florescu, M.D.<\/b>, internal medicine — infectious diseases, will present an abstract at the World Transplant Congress in San Francisco on July 27. She will detail the use of an oral antiviral, brincidofovir, in treating liver transplant or multiorgan transplant patients dealing with a serious or life-threatening double-stranded DNA virus infection.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
