{"id":50043,"date":"2014-07-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-29T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/07\/29\/family-medicine-student-group-garners-national-honor\/"},"modified":"2022-09-02T20:28:18","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T01:28:18","slug":"family-medicine-student-group-garners-national-honor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/07\/29\/family-medicine-student-group-garners-national-honor\/","title":{"rendered":"Family medicine student group garners national honor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>UNMC&#8217;s student Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) will receive a national award in August from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) for professional development of students. <\/p>\n<p><TABLE border=\"0\" width=\"150\" cellspacing=\"10\" align=\"right\"><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Mindy0729.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" alt=\"picture disc.\"><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size:0.85em;line-height:150%\">Mindy Lacey, M.D.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/TD><br \/>\n<\/TR><br \/>\n<\/TABLE>The Excellence in Professional Development Award will be given at the national AAFP student meeting in Kansas City. Mindy Lacey, M.D., is the faculty advisor for the UNMC group, and Audra Kennedy served as president for the FMIG last year. <\/p>\n<p>The group&#8217;s professional development activities in the 2013-14 academic year included regular &#8220;procedure nights,&#8221; focusing on childbirth, casting and exam reviews; a family medicine residency fair; and other informational and outreach activities. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our students are committed to family medicine,&#8221; said Dr. Lacey. &#8220;This national recognition of their extraordinary efforts in professional development speaks to that commitment, and to the fine work of the department faculty, as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Alexis Erbst and April Lauer, new FMIG co-presidents for the 2014-15 academic year, will accept the award on
