Debbie Sacra said her husband, Rick Sacra, M.D., has been able to eat and is listening to music today after spending another night undergoing treatment for the Ebola virus inside the Biocontainment Patient Care Unit at The Nebraska Medical Center. <\/p>\n

“He had some breakfast this morning, which is a change,” Debbie Sacra said. “He hasn’t been able to eat much since he got here, but he had some toast and apple sauce. He also tolerated the research drug well — better than he had the previous doses he was given.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Sacra arrived at The Nebraska Medical Center Friday, Sept. 5, after contracting the disease while treating patients in West Africa. Dr. Sacra works for SIM, an international mission group that responds to people in need across the globe.<\/p>\n

“We had a good conversation last night,” Debbie Sacra said. “We were able to speak again via video conference for about a half hour. He also wanted some music to listen to, so staff members here were able to help make that happen.”<\/p>\n

Dr. Sacra hasn’t seen much of the news coverage surrounding his treatment here, but his wife says he was humbled by some of the things his colleagues in his hometown of Worcester, Mass., had to say about him. <\/p>\n

She also mentioned something she spotted on Twitter over the weekend. <\/p>\n

“The tweet said ‘I’m guessing Rick’s treatment in Omaha will include a dose of Nebraska niceness,'” she said. “That’s been exactly what we’ve experienced.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
