{"id":50450,"date":"2014-09-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-15T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/09\/15\/human-brain-is-focus-of-sept-22-lincoln-science-cafe\/"},"modified":"2022-08-22T16:14:15","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T21:14:15","slug":"human-brain-is-focus-of-sept-22-lincoln-science-cafe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2014\/09\/15\/human-brain-is-focus-of-sept-22-lincoln-science-cafe\/","title":{"rendered":"Human brain is focus of Sept. 22 Lincoln Science Cafe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>\nClinical neuropsychologist, Jeff Snell, Ph.D., will talk about how the human brain works, and effects of brain injury and recovery on functional abilities at the next Lincoln Science Caf&eacute;.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe presentation begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at VEGA, 350 Canopy St. in Lincoln.<\/p>\n<p>\nThose in attendance are encouraged to stick around afterwards for the club&rsquo;s pub quiz later that evening, where five questions will be from Dr. Snell&rsquo;s presentation.<\/p>\n<p>\nDr. Snell holds a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in psychology and a master&rsquo;s degree in psychometrics psychology from Northeast Louisiana University. He completed his doctorate in psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, with a specialization in clinical psychology.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Louisiana native transplanted to Nebraska and joined the staff at QLI in 1998. In addition to working with patients from across the nation who have suffered a brain or spinal cord injury, Dr. Snell also serves as coordinator of research and director of psychology and neuropsychology services at QLI. Dr. Snell brings extraordinary talent in developing compensatory strategies that are critical for the successful long-term living for his patients and their families.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn addition, Dr. Snell has taught and guest lectured at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Grace University in Omaha. He is a member of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and the American Psychological Association. He has published peer-reviewed articles in numerous professional journals and presents regularly to audiences throughout the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\nThis caf&eacute; is being held in partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qliomaha.com\/\">QLI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nScience Caf&eacute;s involve a face-to-face conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone (21 and older), and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. Each meeting is organized around an interesting topic of conversation.
