\nDoug Dalke, M.D., a 1982 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, died tragically on Sept. 22 when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a drunk driver.<\/p>\n

\nDr. Dalke, 57, was an engaged and valued member of the College of Medicine Campaign Committee, said Meg Johnson, assistant vice president – development for the University of Nebraska Foundation.<\/p>\n

\n“Doug will be remembered as a caring, skilled physician and a friend to many,” Johnson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nHe hosted an alumni outreach event in Lincoln, she said, and he served as a champion for the College of Medicine, particularly the division of gastroenterology.<\/p>\n

\nJohnson said Dr. Dalke appreciated the education and training he received at the College of Medicine and was working with others to establish a fund to support fellows in the division of gastroenterology.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n“Dr. Dalke was one of our most loyal alums,” said Bradley Britigan, M.D., dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. “He will truly be missed. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”<\/p>\n

\nA 1979 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Dr. Dalke did his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at UNMC, where he trained under Michael Sorrell, M.D.<\/p>\n

\nHe has been in practice since 1984 and has worked for Gastroenterology Specialties in Lincoln since 1990. Dr. Dalke was active in clinical research with an emphasis on hepatitis C. He made multiple presentations at national meetings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nHe was the medical advisor for the local chapter of the Celiac Sprue Association and served on the board of directors of the Community Blood Bank.\u00a0 He was a past president of the Nebraska GUT Club and an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
